New Details Emerge on Three Men Detained in Phoenix ICE Raids

Phoenix, AZ — April 21, 2025
New information is surfacing about the three men recently detained in Phoenix during coordinated ICE operations that have drawn both public concern and federal attention.
According to reports aired in a local news segment, the men—identified as Carlos Martinez, Javier Hernandez, and Luis Ortega—were taken into custody as part of a targeted immigration enforcement action in the Valley. ICE officials stated the raids were part of an operation focusing on individuals with final orders of removal or those with serious criminal backgrounds.
However, family members and local activists are raising questions about the nature of the arrests. In one case, Carlos Martinez’s wife reported that agents came to their home early in the morning, offering no explanation before taking him away in front of their children. “He has no criminal record,” she said, “and he’s been working here for over a decade.”
Community response has been swift. Members of local immigrant advocacy groups gathered outside ICE offices in downtown Phoenix, demanding transparency and calling for due process for the detained men. “These actions tear families apart,” one protester said. “We need to know why these individuals were targeted.”
ICE officials maintain that the raids were lawful and part of an ongoing initiative to uphold federal immigration laws. A spokesperson emphasized that individuals arrested will have access to legal proceedings and may present their case in immigration court.
City officials have not yet released a formal statement, but Phoenix Mayor Carla Ruiz noted in a brief interview that her office is monitoring the situation closely and intends to ensure community concerns are heard.
As legal proceedings move forward, the broader Phoenix community remains on edge, with calls growing louder for reform in how immigration enforcement is carried out in residential neighborhoods.
